Under Construction and Q&A

This site may take a few weeks to get up and running, so please be patient. It's going to take time to get the format correct. Please consider this blog-site to be "Under Construction" until I can get it right.

In the meantime, here is some Q&A:

What is the purpose of this site?

The goals of the site are somewhat lofty, and may require a reduction in scope in order to be useful, but this is what I perceive as my current list of goals:

1. Provide a list of active animal shelters in Connecticut.

2. Provide a list of active cat shelters in Connecticut.

3. Keep current a list of Connecticut or Global charity events being held to support cat and animal shelters and the well-being of these animals.

4. Provide information on adoption fairs that are being held.

5. Provide cat news - health, scientific, animal abuse arrests, whatever puts cats or animals in the news.

Are you going to focus on Cat or Dogs?

Mostly cats (or felines), but occasionally I hope to run stories on both cats and dogs and other domestic animals.

Are you a Veterinarian?

No, and at no time should anyone use whatever is printed here as a substitute for taking their pet to a veterinarian if their pet is sick or injured. As with humans, the best medical care should be provided by a qualified doctor. This site is for the purpose of creating awareness, but not providing direction.

This site seems a far departure from your usual ramblings. Why are you setting up as site like this?

That's true. The other blogs I have are for creative writing, and having fun. The target audience for those are my friends, and and never intended to be for the general public. But for a long time I had hoped to set up a site that is useful to people as a reference on a topic of significant interest. Since I love animals (probably more than I like people) I thought this would combine the two elements and produce this site.

Of course, the impetus for this site was the passing of my own Himalayan Sealpoint, Precious, on November 21, 2007. Precious died from a neurological disease of unknown origin. The impact of which effected me greatly. So in this way, I can honor her, take some negative energy and turn it into a positive. When I was going through three and a half week's of heck, I didn't have a lot of places to turn to for answers, except the doctors and hospitals. Perhaps I can find some studies that might help other cat owners recognize symptoms more quickly and get their pet to the vet. Of course, with Precious, identification wasn't the remedy, she was terminal.

Do you need help with this site?

I need help with keeping content useful and current to readers. The problem with blogging in general is maintaining enough timely content to keep readers interested. It also takes a lot of time to write, check grammar (my down fall) and post. In the meantime, I'll take on the work of keeping the site current and material timely. But if you know of any charity events, or animal adoption fairs being held, please send that information to thekingsview@ gmail.com. Please provide your contact information, name and phone number, so that I can verify the information. And I welcome ideas and improvements to this site.

What problems to you foresee with maintaining this site?

The biggest issue is scope. Trying to capture every interesting feline-related, domestic animal-related news and health story in all of Connecticut may be incredibly challenging. I may need to limit my coverage to sections of Connecticut over time.

And since I don't get paid to do this, so I'll give it my best.

Will you allow comments?

Yes, but they will have to be moderated because of the amount of Spam that bots drop on websites. This is unfortunate because it takes time away from posting and finding suitable stories and links, but its necessary.

Do you have Pets?

Yes, for now - one Himalayan Sealpoint, Presley. He's an incredibly affectionate cat who thinks he's a dog. And as mentioned, up until a few weeks ago, I had a female Himalayan named Precious. We miss her beyond what words can tell. I've owned other animals in the past. Members of my family also own dogs, cats, fish, birds, horses, sheep and other farm animals.

Are you an Animal Rights Activist?

No, I'm not an animal rights activist, per se, but I strongly believe that animals have rights. I also believe that based on Holy Scripture that God gave us dominion over animals which means we have a responsibility to treat them with respect and dignity, and provide them compassion and love. And we also have a responsibility for their care taking, and representation to an extent (since they cannot speak or legislate for themselves). I believe that supporting and helping animals or their habitats transcends politics and religious affiliation. Also, when I hear about animal abuse, I pray that whoever has caused this abuse is punished severely with long jail sentences and large fines.

What do you think about owning Pets as a tool to teach children?

I think its a marvelous idea as long as it's not the sole purpose. Animals enrich our lives in hundreds of ways. They teach lessons in responsibility, love, compassion, health, service, charity, and even the toughest lessons about the circle of life - including death and dying. These are about a few of things that pets teach us. There are more than I have space to print.

When will this site be up and running?

I'm hoping for around Christmas, but it depends since this is a busy season and there are some changes going on for our family as a whole.
